Recently at the Victorian Jazz Club

Saturday 6th September was a memorable occasion at the Oakleigh/Carnegie RSL on two counts. Firstly it was the debut of the new caterers - Lisa and Daniel and their team, and wow, was the food, service, presentation and price terrific!

Secondly - the absolutely superb music provided by Peter Hooper's Royal Garden Jazz Band - another wow!!. Peter Hooper making that banjo "talk", along with the undoubted talents of Ian Harrowfield on reeds, Andrew McNaughton on trumpet, Ben Van den Akker on drums, Dan Gordon on bass and tuba, and from out of left field the magnificent trombone playing of Glen Jacobi.

The evening began with a very slick performance of Hindustan, complete with spectacular drum solo, and ranged through numbers such as Down in Honky Tonk Town, All of Me, Happy Feet and The Preacher, to name just a few, finishing the night with Old Rokcin' Chair. Another very wlecome surprise was her inimitable rendition by Pippa Wilson (who just happened to be in the audience) of "Crazy".

The crowd responded at the end of the evening with a well deserved standing ovation.

What a spectacular night of music and food! Sorry if you missed it, but we all had a ball!
